The Buddha's Footsteps

with Sydney Hall & Beverly Feldt
Five Tuesdays, October 16-November 13, 6-8 p.m.

Many attended the Buddha’s discourse that day. Most came out of curiosity rather than a desire to learn anything. But several of them felt their hearts suddenly illuminated when they heard the Buddha speak. Others saw in him a worthy opponent who challenged their own beliefs. - Thich Nhat Hanh

The Buddha's Footsteps is a five-week book study group based on Old Path, White Clouds: Walking in the Footsteps of the Buddha by Thich Nhat Hanh. Through the eyes of the Buddha himself and Svasti, the buffalo boy, Thich Nhat Hanh gently weaves together the 80 year life and teachings of Guatama Buddha. Old Path, White Clouds contains the foundational teachings of the Hinayana Buddhist path, offering an approachable and understandable introduction to the Sutras, the oral teachings of the Buddha.

Each class will begin with mindfulness-awareness meditation instruction and practice. We will take the time to sit and simply be together, to look deeply into the present moment. The heart of each gathering will include a discussion of the week's readings, with an opportunity to explore the Buddha's teachings in pairs, small groups, and the full circle. The text is divided into three books, and this five-week study group will focus on Book One, uncovering the treasures of mindfulness as we go. Everyone is encouraged to bring questions, ideas, concerns, and curiosities to the group each week. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming of everyone’s experience.

Level: Everyone is welcome, including beginners and advanced practitioners.
